week 8 "Overalls of Downtown Albany"

The Albany, OR Carousel building was opened to the public in 2017 and is run by a donated 1909 Dentzel Carousel Corporation mechanism. Wendy Kirbey is one of the founders  of the carousel and she first came up with the idea of building such a thing on her way back from a vacation in Missoula in 2002. It consists of animals that are hand carved over the course of 20 years. From here.

This used to be the location of a Wells Fargo bank. It has been vacant since 2018 and is now currently being demolished after being bought by The Albany Revitalization Agency for $1.5 million in 2019. The building itself was built in 1913 and was the residence of one of the earliest banks in Albany's history; First National Bank of Albany . It was planned to be a new area for restaurants and apartment buildings, but that plan has been aborted since last spring.

These colorful buildings on First Street in Downtown Albany were built over 100 years ago. From right, the building was a jewelry store in 1890 and by 1895 it housed an agricultural equipment and bicycle store. The building in the middle was built about in1888 as the Linn County Bank,. It was later used for the Post Office then the stationers and office supply of Holt Duedall and Bob Potts.
The 1875 building on the left is one of two original wood frame commercial buildings left standing in the downtown area. From 1905 to 1980 it was a photography studio. Currently these buildings house from right to left; Brigitte's Place Fine Fabrics (Founded in 2019), MesmerEyes Lashes (opened in 2020), and lastly the Brick Circuit LEGO Store (moved to first street in 2021).
